Services will not start do to virus/root kit infection on Windows XP
I have ran into 3 pc's now that got infected with a rootkit/virus and it's a good one. It stops at least 5 or 6 services from starting up in Windows XP. If you don't notice that the services are not started it just seems that the pc cannot browse the network but can get on the internet. I did the following to remove the infection.
Download ccleaner from Here and cleaned up the temp files.
Download and install SuperAntispyware from Here and ran a full scan.
Download and ran Hitman Pro from Here and ran a scan.
Running these cleaned up the pc's and now the services start fine and the users are not having anymore issues. There was another pc with similar issues and even after running those above it still seemed to be infected so that is when I ran combofix from Here and that took care of the infection.
